Art has fascinated me from a young age. To me it is a limitless medium for expression where nothing can be considered right or wrong. Whilst taking art at school, I became frustrated at the slow pace. I would conceptualise an idea and want to execute it immediately. Immediacy and paint often don’t compliment one another.
This is what made me fall in love with photography. An idea can be created and a moment documented. It is this ethos, which makes my personal work so important to me. Whilst creating ideas in my commercial work is exciting, it is making mistakes and trying new things that allow me to develop as a photographer and motivate me as an artist.

I am Freddie Child-Villiers, a Freelance Commercial Photographer based between Cape Town and London. I specialise in Conceptual Fashion Photography for Print and Digital Media.
I have been working professionally since 2005 and have a diverse background in the fields of photography, direction, lighting and retouching.
Whether I am presented with a strict brief or simple idea, my goal is to turn my clients’ vision into a reality. In order to achieve this, I handle each commission with an emphasis on preparation, efficiency and reliability.
Should I be working with an existing team or with a new one, I believe that great creativity stems from great collaboration. I start by listening to my clients to gain a better understanding of exactly what it is that they hope to achieve with their imagery. Understanding their aesthetic, branding, market, deadline and usage is of utmost importance.
I have been fortunate enough to work with a number of incredible people. Whether a big corporate or a test shoot for a new face, each commission is treated with equal significance.
